The TOGAF certification program enables architecture service providers and tools
vendors to demonstrate that their products and services support the enterprise
architect using TOGAF Architecture Development Method (ADM), a comprehensive,
open method for enterprise architecture. TOGAF ADM complements and can be used
in conjunction with all major frameworks.
The Open Group’s architecture framework, TOGAF, and TOGAF ADM have
been developed and continuously evolved since the mid-90’s by The
Open Group Architecture Forum, which consists of representatives of some
of the world’s
leading IT customer and vendor organizations.
TOGAF certification programs exist for individuals, trainers, training, professional
services, and tool support.

TOGAF is an industry standard architecture framework that may be used freely
by any organization wishing to develop an information systems architecture
for use within that organization.
TOGAF Version 8 ("Enterprise Edition") , was`first published in
December 2002 and republished in updated form as TOGAF Version 8.1 in December
2003. TOGAF Version 8 uses the same underlying architecture development method
that is used, with particular focus on Technical Architectures, in TOGAF Version
7. TOGAF, and applies it to all the domains of an overall Enterprise Architecture.

Benefits
The program enables organizations to standardize on open method for IT architecture
and avoid a lock-in to the proprietary methods of major consulting firms. Customers
can base their IT architecture on an open, industry standard method, which
works with all major frameworks, and can procure tools, training, and the services
of consultants (individuals and integrators) with confidence, on the basis
of certified conformance with TOGAF standards. For service providers and tool
vendors, the certification provides a vehicle to clearly demonstrate that their
services and products support and use the methodology and product sets that
TOGAF certifies.
